Redirect Supply vs Squarespace Domains forwarding: Your UTMs, your DNS, your pages
Squarespace Domains, the new home of former Google Domains customers, can forward a domain or subdomain with a 301 or 302, keeping or dropping the path. What it can't do is forward query parameters or let you edit DNS while forwarding is on. Redirect Supply keeps your UTM tags, leaves your DNS in your hands, and maps each old page to its exact new home, while your domain stays at Squarespace.
Redirect Supply vs Squarespace forwarding: what gets lost on the way
Decision factor
Redirect Supply
Squarespace Domains forwarding

What it redirects
Every page of your old domain, each to its own new URL
A domain or subdomain to one address, with paths kept or removed
Whether your new site uses the same URLs as the old one
Query strings and UTMs
Kept by default
Not forwarded
Campaign links that must still show up in your analytics
Your other DNS records
Stay fully editable, including email and verification records
Locked while forwarding is active
Whether you'll need to touch DNS during the redirect
Analytics
See how much traffic each old domain still gets
No redirect traffic reports
Knowing when an old domain can finally go
Where your domain lives
Stays at Squarespace; you only update DNS records
At Squarespace
You don't have to transfer anything
Best fit
Rebrands, migrations, and campaign domains that must keep their tracking
A spare domain sent to one page with no campaigns attached
If a single UTM link points to your old domain, Redirect Supply
Why Redirect Supply
Choose Redirect Supply for redirects that stay out of your way. Every old URL lands on the right page, every domain runs on HTTPS, and nothing breaks when your website moves.
Squarespace forwarding or Redirect Supply? The short answer
Keep Squarespace Domains forwarding if a spare domain just needs to point to one page, with no campaign tracking and no DNS changes planned.
Switch to Redirect Supply if your links carry UTM tags, you need to edit DNS for email or verification, or your old pages have new addresses. The free plan covers your first domain, and your domain stays registered at Squarespace.
For anything you measure, that makes it a Redirect Supply job.
FAQs
Questions about Squarespace Domains forwarding and Redirect Supply
My domain moved from Google Domains to Squarespace. Can I use Redirect Supply?
Yes. Former Google Domains are now managed in Squarespace's domain settings, and they work with Redirect Supply like any other domain. You keep the registration at Squarespace and only update a few DNS records.
Does Squarespace domain forwarding keep UTM parameters?
No. Squarespace's help center states that query parameters are not forwarded, so ?utm_source= and similar tags are dropped on the way. Redirect Supply preserves query strings by default, so your campaign data arrives intact.
Why can't I edit DNS records while forwarding is on?
Squarespace locks DNS editing while a domain forwards. With Redirect Supply, you only add the records it needs, and everything else, like MX records for email or TXT records for verification, stays editable.
Can Squarespace forward different pages to different URLs?
Squarespace can forward a domain or subdomain to one specific page, and can keep or remove the path. It can't send each old page to a different new address. That takes path-level redirects, included on every Redirect Supply paid plan from $6 a month billed yearly.
Do I need to transfer my domain away from Squarespace?
No. Your domain, renewals, and billing stay at Squarespace. Redirect Supply only takes over the redirects through the DNS records you add.
How do I switch from Squarespace forwarding to Redirect Supply?
Add your domain in Redirect Supply and copy the records it shows. In Squarespace's domain settings, turn off forwarding so DNS editing is unlocked, then add the new records. Your redirects go live once DNS propagates.
