Redirect Supply vs OVHcloud redirection: HTTPS redirects without .htaccess
OVHcloud's Control Panel can redirect a domain with a permanent 301, a temporary 302, or an invisible iFrame. What it can't do, by OVHcloud's own documentation, is redirect an https:// URL, which leaves you writing .htaccess rules on web hosting. Redirect Supply handles HTTPS automatically, maps every page without code, and keeps your domain registered at OVHcloud.

HTTP-only redirects on a domain with its DNS at OVHcloud
If your old domain must work over HTTPS, Redirect Supply
Why Redirect Supply
Choose Redirect Supply for redirects that stay out of your way. Every old URL lands on the right page, every domain runs on HTTPS, and nothing breaks when your website moves.
OVHcloud redirection or Redirect Supply? The short answer
Keep OVHcloud's redirection if the domain only needs an HTTP redirect and its DNS zone stays at OVHcloud.
Switch to Redirect Supply if your old domain must work over HTTPS, you don't want to maintain .htaccess on web hosting, or whole sections of pages need new addresses. The free plan covers your first domain, HTTPS included.
For any domain people actually visit, that makes it a Redirect Supply job.
FAQs
Questions about OVHcloud redirection and Redirect Supply
Does OVHcloud's domain redirection work with HTTPS?
Not from the Control Panel. OVHcloud's documentation states that these redirections don't allow redirecting an https:// URL to another domain or URL, and points to .htaccess rewriting instead. Redirect Supply issues an SSL certificate for every connected domain automatically, so https:// links redirect without extra setup.
Which OVHcloud redirection type should I choose?
For a permanent move, the permanent visible redirect, which returns a 301. The temporary 302 is meant for short-term changes, and the invisible iFrame option keeps the old address in the browser, which OVHcloud notes isn't compatible with all websites and hurts SEO. See 301 vs 302.
Do I need OVHcloud web hosting to redirect over HTTPS?
With OVHcloud's tools, yes: HTTPS redirects rely on .htaccess rules, which run on web hosting. Redirect Supply needs no hosting at all, only the DNS records it shows you when you add your domain.
Does OVHcloud redirection work if my DNS is managed elsewhere?
No. OVHcloud's redirections need an active DNS zone managed in the OVHcloud Control Panel. Redirect Supply works with records at any DNS provider, so you can keep your DNS at Cloudflare or anywhere else.
Do I need to transfer my domain away from OVHcloud?
No. Your domain, renewals, and invoices stay at OVHcloud. You only change a few DNS records so Redirect Supply handles the redirects. See the DNS setup guide.
How do I switch an OVHcloud domain to Redirect Supply?
Add your domain in Redirect Supply and copy the records it shows. In the OVHcloud Control Panel, delete the existing redirection, which also removes the records it added to your DNS zone, then add the new ones. Redirects go live once DNS propagates.
