Websupport DNS setup

If your domain is registered at Websupport, connecting it to Redirect Supply means changing a few records in WebAdmin’s DNS settings. Your domain stays at Websupport, and your registration and email don’t change. It takes about five minutes, and Websupport usually publishes changes within two hours.

Before you start

You need two things ready before you open WebAdmin.

Add the domain in Redirect Supply

DNS records shown for a domain in Redirect Supply

Add your domain in Redirect Supply first. Its settings page shows the records you’ll need, including a TXT value that’s unique to your domain. Keep that page open in another tab. This guide covers a root domain like brand.sk. If you’re connecting a subdomain like go.brand.sk, the DNS setup guide explains the differences.

Check that Websupport runs your DNS

Records in WebAdmin only count when your domain uses Websupport’s nameservers. If your domain points to Cloudflare or another provider, add the records there instead. The Cloudflare DNS setup guide covers the most common case.

Open DNS in WebAdmin

All the changes in this guide happen in one section.

Find the DNS section

Sign in to WebAdmin at admin.websupport.sk and select your domain in the list of services. Choose DNS in the left menu. Records are grouped into tabs by type, such as A, CNAME and TXT.

Records you’ll see there

Domains connected to Websupport hosting usually have A records on the root domain and a wildcard * pointing to the hosting server, sometimes with a separate record for www. Those cover the names Redirect Supply needs. Not sure what else counts? The conflict table on your domain’s page in Redirect Supply lists every record that blocks the setup.

Clear the way

Before adding anything, remove what’s already pointing your domain elsewhere.

Remove old root and www records

On the A tab, delete the records with an empty name, which are the root domain, and any record for www. Check the AAAA tab too, and delete root records there, or visitors on IPv6 will keep reaching the old server.

Decide on the wildcard

A wildcard * record sends every subdomain without its own record to the old server. Redirect Supply only needs the root domain and www, so you can keep it if other subdomains rely on it. Otherwise delete it to keep things clean.

Leave email records alone

MX records and email TXT records like SPF or DKIM keep your email working. They don’t affect redirects, so leave them exactly as they are.

Add the Redirect Supply records

You’ll add four records, each on its type’s tab. Leave the name empty for the root domain, and enter only the prefix for anything else. Keep the default TTL.

Value from your domain’s settings page

Add two A records for the root domain

On the A tab, create a new record with an empty name and the IP 188.114.96.9, then save. Create a second A record with an empty name and 188.114.97.9.

Add the www CNAME

On the CNAME tab, create a record with the name www pointing to proxy.redirect.supply, and save.

Add the TXT record

On the TXT tab, create a record with the name _cf-custom-hostname and paste the value from your domain’s settings page in Redirect Supply. On some less common domain endings, Redirect Supply also asks for an _acme-challenge TXT record. Add it the same way if you see it. This rarely happens with .sk or .cz domains.

Check each tab

Each record is saved as soon as you save its form. Check the A, AAAA and CNAME tabs to make sure nothing old is left on the root domain or www.

Check the status in Redirect Supply

Once the records are saved, you’re done in WebAdmin.

Check the conflict table

You don’t have to wait to find out if something’s wrong. Your domain’s page in Redirect Supply shows a conflict table with the records currently on your domain. Anything that blocks the setup, like an old hosting record or a leftover www record, is flagged there along with what to do about it. Fix those first, and the rest is just waiting.

How long it takes

Websupport says records pointing outside its own servers can take up to 2 hours to apply.

When the domain goes Active

Redirect Supply checks your records automatically. When it finds them, the domain switches to Active and HTTPS is issued on its own, with no extra steps from you. See Domain statuses for what each status means along the way.

Websupport-specific issues

Most problems on Websupport come from records left on another tab.

The old website still loads

A root record is left on the A or AAAA tab, or a www record still points to hosting. Check every tab, delete what’s left, and look again in a private window after a while.

Websupport won’t add the www CNAME

Another record already sits on www, often on the A tab. Delete it first, then add the CNAME again.

Records have no effect

Your domain uses nameservers outside Websupport. Add the records with the provider your nameservers point to.

The domain is stuck on Pending

Open the conflict table on your domain’s page in Redirect Supply. It shows which record is blocking the setup, usually an old hosting record or an old www record. Remove what it flags and give it up to two hours. Record conflicts covers the common cases.
