one.com DNS setup

If your domain is registered at one.com, connecting it to Redirect Supply means switching off one.com’s standard web records and adding a few of your own. Your domain stays at one.com, and your registration and one.com email don’t change. It takes about five minutes, plus up to a day for the changes to spread.

Before you start

You need two things ready before you open one.com.

Add the domain in Redirect Supply

DNS records shown for a domain in Redirect Supply

Add your domain in Redirect Supply first. Its settings page shows the records you’ll need, including a TXT value that’s unique to your domain. Keep that page open in another tab. This guide covers a root domain like brand.com. If you’re connecting a subdomain like go.brand.com, the DNS setup guide explains the differences.

Check that one.com runs your DNS

one.com’s DNS settings only count when your domain uses one.com’s nameservers. If your domain points to Cloudflare or another provider, add the records there instead. The Cloudflare DNS setup guide covers the most common case.

Open DNS settings at one.com

All the changes in this guide happen in one place.

Find the DNS records

Sign in to the one.com control panel and select your domain. Open Advanced settings, choose DNS settings, then open the DNS records tab.

Records you’ll see there

one.com splits records into two groups: standard records that one.com manages for its own hosting and email, and the records you add yourself. The standard web records point your root domain and www to one.com’s web hosting, which puts them in Redirect Supply’s way. Not sure what else counts? The conflict table on your domain’s page in Redirect Supply lists every record that blocks the setup.

Clear the way

Before adding anything, switch off what’s already pointing your domain elsewhere.

Turn off the standard web records

Find the standard records for the root domain and www, and switch them off with the toggle next to each one. As long as they’re on, one.com keeps sending visitors to its own web hosting.

Remove web forwarding

If you’ve set up a web forward for this domain in one.com, delete it. A web forward is a record type at one.com, so it sits right in the list next to the others and competes with Redirect Supply for the same names.

Leave email records alone

one.com’s standard email records and any MX or email TXT records you added keep your email working. They don’t affect redirects, so leave them switched on.

Add the Redirect Supply records

You’ll add four records with Create new record. Leave the hostname empty for the root domain, and enter only the prefix for anything else. one.com adds your domain. Keep the default TTL.

Note: Switch off one.com’s standard web records first.

Add two A records for the root domain

Choose A, leave the hostname empty, enter 188.114.96.9, and save the record. Add a second A record with an empty hostname and 188.114.97.9.

Add the www CNAME

Choose CNAME, enter www as the hostname, and proxy.redirect.supply as the value. Save the record.

Add the TXT record

Choose TXT, enter _cf-custom-hostname as the hostname, and paste the value from your domain’s settings page in Redirect Supply. On some less common domain endings, Redirect Supply also asks for an _acme-challenge TXT record. Add it the same way if you see it.

Check the list

Each record is saved as you create it. Look over the list to make sure all four are there and that the standard web records for the root domain and www are switched off.

Check the status in Redirect Supply

Once the records are in, you’re done in one.com.

Check the conflict table

You don’t have to wait to find out if something’s wrong. Your domain’s page in Redirect Supply shows a conflict table with the records currently on your domain. Anything that blocks the setup, like a standard web record that’s still on, is flagged there along with what to do about it. Fix those first, and the rest is just waiting.

How long it takes

New one.com records are often picked up within a few hours. Allow up to 24 hours in some cases.

When the domain goes Active

Redirect Supply checks your records automatically. When it finds them, the domain switches to Active and HTTPS is issued on its own, with no extra steps from you. See Domain statuses for what each status means along the way.

one.com-specific issues

Most problems on one.com come from standard records that are still switched on.

The one.com website or welcome page still shows up

A standard web record for the root domain or www is still on. Switch it off and check again in a private window after a while.

one.com won’t add the www CNAME

A standard or custom record already sits on www. Switch off the standard one, or delete the custom one, then add the CNAME again.

Records have no effect

Your domain uses nameservers outside one.com. Add the records with the provider your nameservers point to.

The domain is stuck on Pending

Open the conflict table on your domain’s page in Redirect Supply. It shows which record is blocking the setup, usually a standard web record that’s still on. Switch off or remove what it flags and wait. Record conflicts covers the common cases.
